Olivia the Pig Birthday Party

Check out the fabulous photos from a recent “Olivia” birthday party. Adelaide’s friend Portlin turned two, and Portlin’s mommy Chandra did a wonderful job with the theme.

An Olivia cake (beautifully done by Aunt B’s), chocolate-dipped strawberries, sparkling juice, and homemade Olivia play-dough favors all made Portlin’s party very special. Chandra of Orchestrated Grace and Hitching Post Photography did a fantastic job! Everything Gal contributed mini cheesecakes and vanilla cake pops (incorporating the red and white theme, of course!). Chandra’s artistic drawings of Olivia filled out the display. More photos and details after the jump.

Another for the collection

Please let me introduce you to the newest cake pedestal in my collection!

Thanks, Mom, for giving me this great find. I’ve always wanted some Jadeite pieces, and this is the first of hopefully many. Looks great as a Christmas piece, but will work in wonderfully for client events as well.

Someday, when I have a really big Jadeite collection [dreaming!], I’ll decorate a whole room around the beautiful minty green color.

Rustic Barn Wedding

This past September I had the privilege of doing the dessert display for a knockout wedding. Colleen, the gorgeous bride, did an impeccable job thinking through all the details, including the memorable light fixtures and dramatic lace that adorned the dessert table. She’s one creative (and adorable) lady! I absolutely loved the details, and the use of light and creativity in the photos of the bride and groom are pretty impeccable. Check out the talented husband-and-wife photography team Bryan and Mae for the shots of Colleen and Mike.

The Big 1 and the Big 3-0

 

What a year.


It all started Saturday, October 1st, 2011. The big move from sweet home Chicago to my hometown. Overnight, we went from skyscrapers, heavy traffic, and convenience around every corner, to the woods, fresh air, and a population of roughly 800. The Monday after our move, Michael started his new job. The next morning, my water broke and we were on our way to meeting our baby girl. In a whirlwind of just five short days, our lives would never be the same.

A Wedding for Dear Friends

Every once in a while, I get to make desserts for events for my friends. It’s fun to create something for people dear to you, because you know them well and you know what they’ll like. I tend to get extra-special nervous when doing events for the people I know. I’m glad I pulled this one off to Peter and Cassidy’s expectations, and Peter, I’m so relieved the fluffy white cake was exactly what you were after.

The desserts included mixed berry cheesecakes, rustic blueberry-peach pies, dark chocolate candy bar cupcakes, and a white cake with italian meringue buttercream frosting. Cassidy and Peter, you had such a beautiful ceremony and reception. Cassidy, you made a gorgeous bride. I am so happy that the two of you came together and I’m so glad to have you in my life!

Patio Wedding Shower

A dear friend of mine recently had a patio-themed wedding shower. Hosted by her long-time family friend, the shower was perfectly decorated with paper lanterns, colorful dinnerware, and lovely people. Clementine-Lime French Macarons and Gluten-Free Strawberry Shortcake Skewers were a nice accompaniment to the light appetizers and humid weather.

Hot Air Balloon Cake Pop Tutorial

Materials required:

  • baked cake
  • 1-2 tablespoons frosting
  • candy coating drops or candi-quick
  • lollipop sticks
  • styrofoam block
