I wrote about this place not too long ago. We just had another dinner there that trumped the last one, so I had to write again. Uncommon Ground. This place rocks. If you haven’t been, and you’re in the Chicago area….GO. Now. Their breakfast (and coffee) is good too, but go for dinner. It will not disappoint.
What did we eat?
Appetizers:
baked spinach & goat cheese dip (anything with goat cheese in it, and I’m there!)
roasted garlic, extra virgin olive oil crostini
steamed prince edward island mussels (we had these last time. again, amazing. And, the brussel sprouts and bacon mixed in were a welcome surprise!)
applewood smoked bacon, brussel sprouts, sun dried tomatoes, white wine roasted garlic butter
Michael’s order:
grilled dry aged dietzler farm steak
crispy sweet potato cakes, gorgonzola cream, sautéed spinach, caramelized onions, baby carrots
This dish was INCREDIBLE. Gorgonzola cream? Dreamy! Sop it up with crispy sweet potato cakes? Holy wah. And the steak was good too. Golly.
Lisa:
prairie pure macaroni & cheese
prairie pure butterkase, cedar grove white cheddar, swiss, seasonal slaw
Uhhh….move over Kraft! We added some bacon to the order and it was great!
Glen:
crispy moulard duck breast
goat cheese mashed potatoes, roasted broccoli & cauliflower with toasted almonds, cranberry compote
I think I had the duck last time, and it was good again! Love that potato mash. Yum.
Me:
roasted tomatillo soup
This was darn good flavor. Made me want to go home and try roasting up some tomatillos myself!
sunshine salad
organic greens, seasonal vegetables, avocado, sunflower seeds & sprouts, apple cider vinaigrette,
herb & cheese flatbread crisp
Dessert:
s’mores tart: chocolate ganache, bruleed homemade marshmallow & graham cracker crust
Black Dog Gelato: caramel-goat cheese, salty peanut, chocolate hazelnut, & seasonal fruit
Pear apple crisp with caramel goat cheese gelato
milk chocolate creme brulee: creme brulee. chocolate. heaven!
That salty peanut gelato. I’m still dreaming about it! Gonna have to go to Black Dog sometime soon!

Yum! It all sounds so good!
